The Polish Military Command announced that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) used by Russia during its attack on Ukraine entered Polish airspace.  For the first time, the Polish army used its forces and NATO forces against Russian drones.

The statement indicates that on Wednesday, “drone-type objects” repeatedly entered Polish airspace:

“The operation to identify and neutralize the objects is ongoing. Weapons have been used, and military personnel are working to determine the locations of the downed drones.”

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces stated that the operation is ongoing, and residents have been advised to stay at home as the Podlaskie, Mazowieckie, and Lublin regions are at risk. Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that Polish aircraft “used weapons against enemy objects.”

Azerbaijani journalist Aysel Maharram , residing in Poland, spoke to Modern.az about the events and the latest situation.

She noted that they have been observing the movement of the air force since the morning:

“On the night of September 10, Russia violated Polish airspace during a massive attack on Ukraine. Due to unplanned military activity, some airports, including "Rzeszów-Jasionka", "Lublin" international airports, and both Warsaw airports, have been closed.  I should note that “Rzeszów-Jasionka" airport is the main logistics hub for the transfer of Western aid to Ukraine. We live in the capital city of Warsaw. We have been observing the movement of the air force since the morning. The public has been warned to report drones or their crash sites to the relevant authorities. Additionally, we have been advised not to approach such areas. However, currently, there are no restrictions that would complicate citizens' daily lives. At the same time, there are no casualties. Our daily work life continues.”

A. Maharram noted that the Polish government stated it had responded seriously:

“Prime Minister Donald Tusk called an emergency meeting of government members due to Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) violating the country's airspace. He also stated that the situation is serious and that various scenarios should be prepared for.”
