The worst air quality in the South Caucasus has been recorded in Yerevan.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia, Françoise Jacob, during her speech at a forum titled “The Future of the Banking Sector: Innovations and Development Prospects.”
According to her, this situation negatively affects the country's attractiveness for investors.
The UN official also drew attention to other environmental problems faced by Armenia. She particularly highlighted issues such as rapid desertification of lands, pollution of rivers, and environmental damage resulting from agricultural, construction, and mining activities.
Françoise Jacob added that the Armenian government currently allocates only 0.6 percent of its GDP to environmental protection, which is a very low figure compared to the scale of environmental problems.
