The Ankara Prosecutor's Office has launched a large-scale investigation into the metropolitan municipality. According to allegations, financial irregularities occurred in the organization of concerts held between 2021 and 2024. By decision of the Prosecutor's Office, 13 people have been detained.
Modern.az reports that Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş has spoken about the issue for the first time.
Yavaş stated that after the arrests made in the Istanbul municipality, there was an expectation among the public that similar operations could also take place in Ankara:
"I was expecting this operation. Because the public believed that after Istanbul, action would also be taken in Ankara."
He emphasized that all those detained are municipal employees and that they will be interrogated:
"All those detained are city hall officials. They will give statements, an investigation will be conducted, and it will be determined whether public interests have been harmed. I had previously instructed that all these matters be investigated. No legal violations were found in the investigations related to the concerts."
Yavaş noted that it is not about harming public interests, and he announced that he would hold a press conference soon to answer all questions.
According to the Mayor of Ankara, 97 corruption cases from the years preceding his team's tenure have been submitted to law enforcement agencies: "We have prepared and submitted materials regarding 97 corruption cases that occurred in the period before us to the relevant authorities. However, none of them have been investigated. I will also announce why they have not been investigated in the coming days."
