The Israeli army has halted its offensive operations in the Gaza Strip.

Modern.az reports that "The Times of Israel" newspaper published information on this matter.

According to the information, this decision was made following a call from US President Donald Trump.

Eyal Zamir, Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), stated that the army is currently conducting only defensive operations "in accordance with the instructions of the political leadership" and that the goal is "to eliminate existing threats".

On Thursday evening, Trump posted on the "Truth Social" social platform, demanding that Israel immediately cease air strikes on Gaza. The US president stated that Hamas had announced its readiness to accept some points of his peace plan, emphasizing that the issue of prisoner release was being discussed within this framework.

“Israel must immediately stop the bombings so that we can ensure the safe and swift release of the prisoners,” Trump noted. He added that negotiations are currently underway "to ensure long-awaited peace in the Middle East".

Following this, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Tel Aviv is preparing for the immediate implementation of the first phase of Trump's plan for Gaza. The first phase of the plan envisages the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
