A court decision regarding the annulment of the results of the 38th congress of the Republican People's Party (CHP) in Turkey has eliminated the possibility of the party's former chairman, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, returning to leadership.

Modern.az reports that the Ankara Civil Court rejected the lawsuit, deeming it unfounded. The decision was explained by insufficient evidence.

It should be recalled that at the 38th congress held in November 2023, Özgür Özel was elected the new chairman of the CHP, defeating Kılıçdaroğlu, who had led the party for 13 years. Following this, tensions arose within the party, and Lütfü Savaş, the former mayor of Hatay, along with a group of delegates, appealed to the court with allegations of “fraud and vote-buying” at the congress.

If the Ankara court had accepted that lawsuit, the results of the 38th congress could have been annulled. This would have created a legal opportunity for Kılıçdaroğlu's return to the political scene. However, with the court's final decision, this possibility has been completely eliminated.

With this, Özgür Özel's leadership in the CHP has been legally confirmed.  Political observers believe that this court decision put an end to the question within the CHP, “Can Kılıçdaroğlu return?”
