The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has completed the investigation into a corruption case against Ekrem İmamoğlu, the former mayor of Istanbul, Turkey.
Modern.az reports that the city's chief prosecutor, Akın Gürlek, provided information on this matter.
According to the prosecutor, the indictment regarding corruption facts in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has been completed and sent to court:
“The preparation of the indictment has been finalized. The damage caused to state property during the period the crime was committed is estimated at a total of 160 billion lira (approximately 3.8 billion dollars) over 10 years”, – Gürlek stated.
The indictment document consists of 3,900 pages. 402 people are recognized as suspects in the case, 102 of whom are already in custody.
According to Turkish media reports, for Ekrem İmamoğlu, presented as the main figure and “founder and leader of the criminal organization”, the prosecutor's office has demanded a prison sentence ranging from 282 to 2,352 years.
It should be noted that İmamoğlu has been held in Silivri prison since March 23.
