Budapest is being considered as the most suitable venue for a possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The minister spoke about this in an interview with the Russian press. According to him, the holding of the summit will depend on Washington resuming the initiative and being ready for preparations:

“If the US side wishes to continue the initiative and begin preparations for the summit, Budapest will be the most optimal option for this meeting,” - Lavrov stated.

He also denied claims about the disruption of negotiations by the Russian side:

“Moscow did not cause the suspension of negotiations; we were simply waiting for Washington to take a step, but no such initiative came," – emphasized the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Lavrov added in his interview that Russia proposes a one-year extension of the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty (DSNV). The minister noted that this step is “an indicator of the responsibility of major powers in preventing nuclear war.”

In addition, Lavrov warned that if any nuclear state begins nuclear tests, Russia will respond in kind.
