Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke about the Zangezur corridor (“Trump Road”).
According to Modern.az, Nikol Pashinyan stated during his speech in parliament today that the construction of the "Trump Road" will begin in the second half of 2026.
According to him, all details should be discussed by the end of this year, and the entire plan should be presented on paper in the first half of next year. Construction work is planned to begin in the second half of 2026.
"But I didn't want to talk about this yet, because such plans always go off schedule," Pashinyan said, noting the importance of considering the workload of the Trump team, among other issues.
"We will do everything to ensure that the deadlines for the planned works are met," Pashinyan assured.
According to the Prime Minister, the railway passing through the Zangezur corridor will follow the route of the railway remaining from the Soviet era, as any other route would be unrealistic. The gas pipeline will be located considerably north of the corridor. Power lines will also be extended considerably north. It is currently unknown whether the gas pipeline and power lines will remain in Syunik or pass through the Vayots Dzor region.
"Everything looks smooth on the map, but the terrain dictates the requirements," Pashinyan explained.
The Prime Minister said that East-West roads will be integrated into the North-South project. Options are still being discussed.
The pipeline route is still uncertain; its fate will largely depend on oil prices.
The Prime Minister also commented on the reaction of Armenia's social media segment to Baku's statement that the road would operate under favorable conditions for Azerbaijan.
"However, we are not saying that the conditions are unacceptable. We signed a document with acceptable conditions. These are the ones signed by the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan in the Washington document," Pashinyan recalled. He listed the known principles – issues such as territorial integrity, sovereignty, mutual respect, and inviolability of borders.
