“The Secretary-General strongly condemns the large-scale missile and drone attacks carried out by Russia against several regions of Ukraine today. According to reports, at least six people were killed in the capital Kyiv, and two in Chornomorsk. It is reported that a large number of civilians were injured, and residential and energy infrastructures, as well as the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kyiv, were damaged as a result of the attack.”
Modern.az reports that this was reflected in a statement issued by the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General.
The statement notes that attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure constitute a violation of international humanitarian law, and such attacks are unacceptable wherever they occur and must cease immediately.
The statement also reports that the Secretary-General recalled the principle of the inviolability of diplomatic missions.
“The Secretary-General reiterates his call for a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire as a first step towards a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace. He emphasizes that this peace must fully ensure Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, in accordance with the UN Charter, international law, and relevant UN resolutions,” the statement says.
It should be noted that on November 14, at approximately 01:00 AM, one of the Iskander-type missiles fell on the territory of the Azerbaijani Embassy as a result of missile and drone attacks on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. In this regard, Mikhail Evdokimov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Azerbaijan, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where a strong protest was conveyed to him, and a corresponding note was presented.
