Georgia's Personal Data Protection Service will be abolished from March 2, 2026.

Modern.az reports that this was announced by Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to him, the functions of this institution will be fully transferred to the State Audit Office as an independent constitutional p.

“As an independent constitutional p, the State Audit Office possesses a higher degree of institutional independence, and this fully complies with international standards,” Sh. Papuashvili stated.

Furthermore, the Business Ombudsman will be placed under the Ministry of Economy from January 1, 2026.

Papuashvili stated that the transfer of the Business Ombudsman to the Ministry of Economy will ensure a more prompt response to the needs of businesses and better coordination at the political level.

It was stated that, overall, these changes will ensure the alignment of the management system's constitutional structure with state resources established through approximate optimization.
