The Turkish Parliament's National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Committee has decided to send deputies to İmralı Island, where PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan is imprisoned.
Modern.az reports this, citing TRT.
It was noted that, out of 53 deputies, 32 voted in favor, 30 against, and 3 abstained.
The Republican People's Party (CHP) announced that it would not send a representative. The DEM party sharply criticized this decision.
The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) demanded an open vote regarding the İmralı visit. Numan Kurtulmuş, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, who chaired the meeting, emphasized the importance of holding it behind closed doors. AKP, MHP, and DEM voted for the meeting to be held behind closed doors. After the decision was made, the CHP faction left the room.
