German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and US President Donald Trump discussed a peace plan regarding Ukraine in a phone call.
Modern.az reports, citing "Spiegel" publication, that federal government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius stated that the phone conversation took place in a constructive atmosphere. During the conversation, the parties indicated that the next steps at the advisor level had been agreed upon.
The German Chancellor informed his European partners after the phone conversation.
It should be noted that the 28-point document prepared by the US envisages a number of concessions aimed at Russia's interests. These include additional territorial concessions by Kyiv, the number of personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and the country's non-admission to NATO membership.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the current situation one of the most difficult moments in history. He stated that Ukraine is facing a very difficult choice, and in this choice, there is a risk of losing either its dignity or an important partner.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also discussed the US peace initiative with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a phone call. Although Washington's efforts to halt the conflict were highly appreciated during the phone conversation, it was emphasized in the discussions that an agreement would only be possible with the joint participation of European partners.
