Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Andrey Gnatov stated that the battles ongoing for the past year have severely “fatigued and exhausted” the army.
Modern.az reports that he stated this in an interview with the publication “Die Zeit”.
In response to a question about personnel shortages, the General noted that this problem is real:
“Naturally, every commander would want more personnel, more infantry, more weapons and ammunition. We need this.”
Gnatov emphasized that the situation at the front remains “very difficult”:
“This year's battles have truly weakened us, but we are taking all measures to increase the number of units and improve the training of personnel.”
According to him, Ukrainian servicemen undergo more than 50 days of basic training before being sent to the combat zone, after which an additional 14 days are given for soldiers to adapt to the conditions of the operational area.
General Gnatov stated that despite the difficulties, the Ukrainian army continues to defend its lines.
