US President Donald Trump met with New York's elected mayor Zohran Mamdani.
According to Modern.az, Trump stated that the meeting held at the White House was a “pleasant surprise” for him.
Although Trump had previously sharply criticized Mamdani, he said that the positions of the two sides coincided on many key issues.
“He wants no crime, the construction of apartments, and reduced rents. I agree with all of these,” the US President noted.
Trump also emphasized that he would “work together” with Mamdani.
Although Donald Trump had previously threatened to limit New York's funding if Mamdani were elected mayor, he now said he had abandoned this idea: “I will help him, I will not harm him. I want New York to be great.”
34-year-old Zohran Mamdani became the first Muslim mayor in New York's history and the youngest politician to lead the city in the last hundred years. Trump had described his election victory as a “small loss of sovereignty” and also called Mamdani a “hundred percent communist lunatic.”
