The Zangezur Corridor, as an integral part of the Middle Corridor, is an important factor contributing to the development of the Turkic world.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Binəli Yıldırım, head of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), during his speech at a symposium held at Selçuk University in Turkey.
According to him, the opening of the route between the western regions of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic will further unlock the potential of the Turkic world, and its resources and wealth will be utilized for the welfare of the Turkic peoples. “The Zangezur Corridor holds special importance for the future of the Turkic world,” Binəli Yıldırım stated.
Touching upon the trade indicators among OTS countries, he stated that despite a total foreign trade turnover of 1.1 trillion dollars among Turkic states at present, only 70 billion dollars of this accounts for mutual trade.
The head of the OTS Council of Elders also noted the necessity of fully utilizing a common Turkic alphabet consisting of 34 letters. “Working points regarding the common Turkic alphabet have been agreed upon. Today, the actual implementation of this alphabet is crucial. Everything depends on the political will of individual countries and their efforts to implement it. This requires time,” said B. Yıldırım, noting that thanks to the new alphabet, residents of OTS countries will be able to read in any Turkic language.
The head of the OTS Council of Elders also highlighted issues such as the preparation of textbooks on the common history of the Turkic world, the simplification of customs procedures, and infrastructure development as important issues on the agenda for the integration of Turkic states.
