In Nigeria, considered Africa's most populous country, over 300 students and teachers have been abducted by armed individuals from a Catholic school. This incident marks the second such raid in the country within a week.
Modern.az reports, citing local media, that according to a statement from the Christian Association of Nigeria, the total number of abductees was 303 students and 12 teachers. The incident occurred at Saint Mary Catholic School. It is reported that there are also girls among the abducted students. Nigerian police have launched an operation to find the abducted individuals, and nearby forest areas are being searched. Immediately after the incident, the President of Nigeria canceled his international visits and placed the country's security forces on high alert.
It should be noted that a few days ago, as a result of an armed attack on a boarding school located in Maiga province in northwestern Nigeria, 25 schoolgirls were abducted and taken to an unknown location.
These incidents coincide with a period when US President Donald Trump threatened Nigeria with military intervention in response to the killing of Christians. It is noted that this incident is the first large-scale abduction of students in the last 11 years. A major attack on a school in Borno state was carried out in 2014 by members of the Boko Haram terrorist group. In that attack, 276 students were abducted.
