Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has revealed the details of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Turkmenistan.
Modern.az reports that Erdoğan spoke about this in a statement to journalists on the plane while returning from his visit to Turkmenistan.
In response to a question about the details of his meeting with Putin, President Erdoğan stated that they had very productive, comprehensive, and in-depth discussions.
"During our meeting, I specifically stated that he could visit Turkey at any time. We also discussed the importance of meeting as soon as possible. He said: "I will keep my promise." I hope he will make this visit very soon. Our relations with Russia are not based on short-term personal interest calculations. They are based on a deeply rooted history, a strong diplomatic foundation, and mutual trust.
In yesterday's meeting, we mainly discussed war and peace efforts. Like all actors, Mr. Putin is very well aware of Turkey's position regarding the Ukraine conflict. We believe that this war should have ended a long time ago. We openly state this to all our colleagues."
Erdoğan continued his remarks on the Russia-Ukraine conflict as follows:
"As you know, US President Donald Trump is involved in this matter. In addition to Trump's involvement, we are also encouraging America. Our Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, is in constant contact with relevant parties in America. We also conduct telephone diplomacy with leaders from time to time. After this meeting with Putin, we aim to have the opportunity to discuss the peace plan with US President Trump as well. Peace is not far away; we see it. The only thing we need to do is turn our path towards where peace is. The Black Sea should not be seen as a battlefield. Such a situation would only harm Russia and Ukraine and bring them no benefit whatsoever. Everyone needs navigation safety in the Black Sea. This must be ensured."
