The removal of President Nicolas Maduro from office as a result of a 2-hour operation carried out by the US army in Venezuela on January 3 has once again brought this country to the world's agenda. In this period of intensified discussions regarding Venezuela, one of the notable topics is the statistical indicators related to Venezuelans who came to Azerbaijan in previous years for various reasons.
Modern.az reports, citing information obtained from the State Statistical Committee, that the total number of arrivals from Venezuela to Azerbaijan over the last 6 years was 1277 people. According to statistics, the year with the highest indicator was 2019 – in that year, 409 Venezuelans arrived in the country. In 2024, this figure dropped to 179.
The lowest indicators coincide with the period of the quarantine regime implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the number of Venezuelans arriving in Azerbaijan was 51 in 2020 and 83 in 2021. In subsequent years, an increase in figures was again recorded: this indicator was 328 in 2022 and 227 in 2023.
