Over the last week, fourteen people have died in New York City due to frosty weather conditions.
Modern.az reports that this information, disseminated in local media, has also been confirmed by City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. According to preliminary information, eight of the deceased died due to hypothermia.
It should be noted that on January 25, a record amount of snow fell in New York as a result of a strong snowstorm. According to the Mayor, 188 million pounds of salt were used to clear the streets of ice.
The city administration has implemented various measures to help the homeless. Single-person shelters and heating centers have been opened for them. Additionally, 20 buses offering heating services have been deployed within the city.
