Citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who participated in the ongoing military operations between Russia and Ukraine have been brought to justice.
Modern.az reports that the State Security Service is carrying out operational-investigative measures aimed at identifying and bringing to legal responsibility citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who participate in military conflicts outside the country's borders as part of armed groups not provided for by the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the information obtained, during the past period, a significant number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the ongoing military operations between Russia and Ukraine, resulting in deaths, disappearances, or injuries, and some were confirmed to be held captive.
As investigations have proven the participation of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Nabiyev Real Eldeniz oglu, born in 1991, Huseynov Faris Famil oglu, born in 1993, Mammadov Ali Elnur oglu, born in 1994, and Mirhashimli Murov Hasan oglu – in combat operations under the control of Russian and Ukrainian armed groups, these individuals were detained in January 2026, brought to criminal responsibility, and a pre-trial detention measure was chosen for them by court decision.
It is once again brought to the attention of citizens that participation in such armed conflicts entails criminal liability in the Republic of Azerbaijan, and henceforth, the issue of responsibility for individuals committing relevant criminal acts in the territory of foreign states will be ensured in accordance with the law.
