In Spain, children under 16 are planned to be banned from using social media, including Instagram and TikTok.
Modern.az reports that the country's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has announced his intention to ban social media use for this age group and demanded platforms to implement age verification. He called social media a "failed state" where disinformation and hate speech are promoted.
This initiative follows a pan-European trend. Similar restrictions have already been implemented in Australia and approved in France. Spanish legislation also provides for legal and criminal liability for platform executives who fail to remove illegal or hateful content.
