February 14 is celebrated annually as Valentine's Day in most countries around the world, including Azerbaijan. On this day every year, couples give each other special gifts, expressing their love in a special way.

However, this day is more widely known as Valentine's Day worldwide. This is associated with Saint Valentine, a Christian clergyman who lived in the 3rd century.

It is interesting why February 14 is celebrated as Valentine's Day.

Modern.az presents the reason for the origin of February 14.

The history of February 14 dates back to ancient times. This day is known worldwide as Valentine's Day and is associated with a Christian clergyman named Saint Valentine  who lived in the Roman Empire in the 3rd century. The most famous legend about him in historical sources is that he was executed for defying the decree of Roman Emperor Claudius II Gothicus. Specifically, when Roman Emperor Claudius II Gothicus, believing that single men made better soldiers, forbade young soldiers from marrying, Valentine secretly married loving couples. For this reason, he was arrested and executed on February 14.
