The term of the pre-trial detention measure chosen for former head of the executive authority Islam Rzayev, who was detained during an operation conducted by the State Security Service (SSS) in the Balakan District Executive Authority, has been extended.
Modern.az reports that the Sabail District Court has issued a decision regarding this.
The court decided to extend the pre-trial detention measure chosen for Islam Rzayev for another 3 months.
It should be noted that in October 2025, as a result of an operation conducted by the SSS in the Balakan District Executive Authority, former head of the executive authority I. Rzayev was detained and, by court decision, a pre-trial detention measure for 4 months was chosen for him.
Islam Rzayev is accused under Articles 179.3.2 (large-scale embezzlement) and 311.3.2 (repeated bribery) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
He was relieved of his duties as head of the Balakan District Executive Authority on October 30, 2025.
