The Court regarding Qabil Mammadov issued a decision

The court proceedings on the appeal filed against the verdict concerning Qabil Məmmədov, a blogger residing abroad and accused under 24 articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, have concluded.

Modern.az reports that the decision was announced today at the Baku Court of Appeal during proceedings chaired by Judge Zamin İbrahimov.

According to the decision, the appeal was not granted, and the verdict was upheld.

It should be recalled that Qabil Məmmədov was sentenced in absentia by the Baku Court for Grave Crimes. According to the verdict, he was deprived of liberty for a period of 16 years.

It should be noted that a criminal case was initiated against Qabil Məmmədov by the Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor's Office.

Based on the totality of evidence collected in the case, a decision was made on July 17 last year to re-indict Qabil Məmmədov under articles 178.2.2, 178.2.4, 182.2.1, 182.2.4, 214.2.1, 214.2.2, 214.2.3, 214-1, 214-2, 32.3, 34.2, 233, 32.3, 34.2, 315, 32.3, 34.2, 186.2.1, 32.3, 34.2, 186.2.2, 32.3, 34.2 and 127.2.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan; however, as he was outside the borders of the Republic of Azerbaijan, it was not possible to announce the indictment to him.

An in absentia arrest warrant was issued against Q. Məmmədov in January of this year by a decision of the Binəqədi District Court.
