Details of the actions aimed at seizing state power and treason by Ramiz Mehdiyev, a member of the Security Council and former head of the Presidential Administration, have become known.

Modern.az reports that, according to APA, Ramiz Mehdiyev prepared a plan for a coup d'état with Russia's support and proposed it to Moscow through his channels.

Ramiz Mehdiyev attempted to capitalize on the period of tension that arose in relations between Azerbaijan and Russia. It should be recalled that serious tension emerged in Azerbaijan-Russia relations after an AZAL plane was shot down in Russian airspace on December 25 of last year. Russia's refusal to apologize and pay compensation regarding the shooting down of the AZAL plane caused strong protests in official Baku. The escalation of relations with Russia led to extensive discussions and criticisms in the public and media environments of both countries.

Ramiz Mehdiyev, however, used this situation to convey to Russia, through his channels and old friends, that a coup d'état plan was ready and that he expected support from Moscow on this matter.

In his plan, Ramiz Mehdiyev proposed the creation of an institution in the format of a temporary State Council for the transitional period after forcibly seizing state power. This plan envisioned the 87-year-old former bureaucrat himself as the leader. According to the information, Mehdiyev also shared information with Russia regarding the individuals who would be represented in the State Council he would lead.

According to an informed source, in Dushanbe, where the Azerbaijani and Russian presidents met, the Russian side itself informed the Azerbaijani side about Ramiz Mehdiyev's proposal and his network's plan.

It appears that 87-year-old Ramiz Mehdiyev has already exhausted Russia with his continuous requests and insistence. Therefore, Russia completely rejected Mehdiyev, who offered no prospects, and itself informed official Baku about his plan and network.

Ramiz Mehdiyev's proximity to Russia has always been evident. He has been known as a member of Moscow's intelligence network since the Soviet era. For many years, Ramiz Mehdiyev used his capabilities to facilitate the advancement of officials who were Russia's “friends” in the Azerbaijani government, in positions, in parliament, and in the media.

It should be noted that Ramiz Mehdiyev is accused under Articles 278.1 (actions aimed at seizing state power), 274 (treason), and 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained through criminal means) of the Criminal Code.

The Sabail District Court of Baku city issued a decision on October 14 of this year regarding the criminal case against Mehdiyev Ramiz Anvar oglu.

According to the decision, the court granted the motion regarding Ramiz Mehdiyev, who was brought to criminal responsibility for particularly serious criminal acts, and chose house arrest as a preventive measure for a period of 4 months.
