At a time when the peace agenda in the South Caucasus has been reactivated, the future of Turkey-Armenia relations and the prospects of new transport routes in the region have become the focus of international and local political discussions. The new geopolitical realities formed in the region after the full restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, especially the issue of the Zangezur corridor, affect not only the countries of the region but also the strategic interests of the broader Eurasian space.

In this context, the issue of opening borders and restoring communication lines between Turkey and Armenia continues to remain in the spotlight. The success of both processes directly depends on bilateral negotiations and Azerbaijan's position. Ankara, for its part, has always declared that it prioritizes Baku's interests in this matter.

Touching upon this very topic, Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, stated in an interview with Modern.az that the opening of borders, as well as steps to be taken in the direction of the Zangezur corridor, will be determined solely by Azerbaijan's consent and position.

“We take every step together with Azerbaijan. Whenever Azerbaijan gives its consent, the borders between Turkey and Armenia will be opened,” the minister emphasized.

Answering our question regarding the Zangezur corridor, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu noted that work is already continuing in all directions:

“The work carried out in Zangezur does not create any problems for the Armenian side. Everything depends on Azerbaijan. Whatever decision Azerbaijan makes, we stand by it and take steps in accordance with that decision.”

The minister added that these issues are continuously discussed.
