Former Head of the Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev has been removed from the editorial board of the Azerbaijan National Encyclopedia.
According to exclusive information obtained by **Modern.az** website, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed Decree No. 797 dated November 12, 2025, regarding this matter.
It should be noted that Ramiz Mehdiyev held the post of First Deputy Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Azerbaijan National Encyclopedia until October 2024. In October of last year, amendments were made to the Regulations on the Editorial Board of the Azerbaijan National Encyclopedia. According to these amendments, the post of First Deputy Chairman of the Editorial Board was abolished. As a result, Ramiz Mehdiyev remained merely an ordinary member of the Editorial Board of the Azerbaijan National Encyclopedia.
Thus, with the Decree dated November 12, 2025, R. Mehdiyev has also been removed from ordinary membership of the editorial board of the Azerbaijan National Encyclopedia.
It should be recalled that the last composition of the editorial board of the Azerbaijan National Encyclopedia was approved by Decree No. 636 of the Head of State dated November 1, 2018.
Currently, the Chairman of the editorial board of the Azerbaijan National Encyclopedia is President Ilham Aliyev.
The Deputy Chairmen of the editorial board are Akif Alizade (full member of ANAS), Ibrahim Guliyev (full member of ANAS), and Anar Rzayev (People's Writer).
The Editor-in-Chief of the Azerbaijan National Encyclopedia is Isa Habibbayli (President of ANAS), and the Executive Secretary is Tofig Naghiyev (Vice-President of ANAS).
Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev is accused under Articles 278.1 (actions aimed at seizing state power), 274 (treason), and 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained through criminal means) of the Criminal Code.
Some time ago, a decision was made regarding the criminal case against Ramiz Mehdiyev at the Sabail District Court. The court granted the motion filed against Ramiz Mehdiyev, who was brought to criminal responsibility for particularly serious criminal acts, and chose house arrest as a preventive measure for a period of 4 months.
87-year-old Ramiz Mehdiyev served as the Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan from 1995-2019, and as the President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences from 2019-2022. He is currently a full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
