A prominent public figure, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Honored Scientist and Honored Civil Servant of the Republic of Azerbaijan Vahid Axundov passed away on December 14, 2025, at the age of 84.
According to Modern.az, the late Vahid Axundov entered the political history of independent Azerbaijan as one of the officials who held the same post for a long time, having worked with the presidents of four governments.
It should be noted that Vahid Axundov was one of the oldest officials holding high positions in the upper echelons of power. By working with the presidents of four governments, he entered the political history of independent Azerbaijan as one of the officials who held the same post for a long time.
Vahid Axundov was appointed to the Presidential Administration in October 1991. He worked with 4 presidents - Ayaz Mutallibov, Abulfaz Elchibey, Heydar Aliyev, and Ilham Aliyev.

The State Advisor on Economic Policy issues initially joined the team of ex-president Ayaz Mutallibov.
In Mutallibov's team, he held the post of advisor to the head of state in the Presidential Administration from 04.10.1991 to 31.10.1991, and again as State Advisor on Economic Policy in the “White House” from 31.10.1991 to 06.05.1993.
Incidentally, in 1992, Mutallibov left power, and Abulfaz Elchibey became president. However, V. Axundov managed to remain in Elchibey's team by retaining his position in the President's Executive Apparatus.
True, later he was sent for a very short period (14.05.1993 - 23.11.1993) to the position of director of the Economic Policy and International Cooperation Center of the Cabinet of Ministers. But V. Axundov's stay in the Cabinet of Ministers did not last long, and shortly after Heydar Aliyev came to power in 1993 (on 04.11.1993), he was returned to the Presidential Administration. This time, Vahid Axundov, who joined Heydar Aliyev's team, again took up the post of State Advisor on Economic Policy.
Although Ilham Aliyev came to power in 2003, Vahid Axundov managed to retain his position this time as well. He held the post of State Advisor on Economic Policy issues in the Presidential Administration from 2003 until June 2017.
In 2017, as a result of structural changes in the Presidential Administration, the institution of advisors was abolished. Consequently, the post of State Advisor on Economic Policy issues was also eliminated. With this, V. Axundov, who was 75 years old at the time, was sent into retirement.
Vahid Axundov's long-term effective activity in public service and his contributions to the development of economic science have been highly appreciated. In 1992, he was awarded the honorary title of “Honored Scientist”, and in 2006, “Honored Civil Servant”, and was awarded the “Shokhrat” (Glory) Order in 2007 and the “Sharaf” (Honor) Order in 2012.
