In the first 9 days of the New Year, 431 children were named in Azerbaijan. Of these, 225 are boys and 206 are girls.
In response to an inquiry from Modern.az, the Ministry of Justice stated that Uğur was the most frequently chosen name among boys. This name was given to 44 babies in the current year. Raul, which remained on the list, was chosen 34 times, Yusif 24, Hüseyn 23, and Əli 21 times. Interest in modern names is also noteworthy: Miran was chosen 20 times, Tunar 16, and Fateh 15 times. The top ten is completed by the names Onur and Ömər – each given to 14 children.
Among girls, Məryəm maintained its lead – this name was given to 25 babies. The names Melisa and Aylin were chosen 24 times, placing them in the top three. Following these, Zəhra was chosen 23 times, and Fatimə 22 times. On the list, the names Zeynəb and Nilay were given 20 times, İnci 18, Əlisa 16, and Ayla 14 times.
It should be noted that Uğur was also the most frequently given name to boys born in 2025. This name was given to 1721 children. Subsequent places among boy names are held by Raul (1301), Hüseyn (1164), Əli (1151), Yusif (1100), Miran (855), Ömər (784), Ayxan (737), Tunar (693), and Murad (677).
Last year, Melisa was the most frequently given name to girls (1200). Other most frequently given names to girls are Zeynəb (1129), Məryəm (1127), Nilay (1112), Aylin (1095), Zəhra (1066), Ayla (1053), İnci (950), Alisa (946), and Fatimə (803).
