Misir Mardanov will replace Galina Mehdiyeva, Ramiz Mehdiyev's wife, in the position of department head.
According to information received by Modern.az from reliable sources, Azerbaijan's former Minister of Education, Misir Mardanov, is expected to be appointed to a new position at Baku State University in the near future.
According to the information, he will lead one of the currently vacant departments. The department in question is the Department of Computational Mathematics, which was previously headed by Galina Mehdiyeva, Ramiz Mehdiyev's wife. It is reported that Misir Mardanov will begin his activity precisely as the head of this department.
According to information provided by sources, the main reason for his appointment not being formalized yet is the ongoing handover process for the director position at the abolished Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics and the "Ramiz Mehdiyev case". Misir Mardanov is expected to commence his activities at Baku State University after the completion of this process. Sources close to the university also confirm this information.
It should be noted that Misir Mardanov has been one of the recognized figures in the Azerbaijani scientific and educational community for many years. He received his higher education in the mathematics department of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Baku State University. Subsequently, he engaged in pedagogical and administrative activities at the same faculty for a long period. From 1978 to 1989, M. Mardanov served as Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics. His last position at BSU was that of Rector.
For this very reason, his return to the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics is among the expectations.
For your information, the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics currently comprises 9 departments. At present, only the position of head of the Department of Computational Mathematics is vacant. Galina Mehdiyeva headed this department until recently. Following her dismissal, the leadership issue in this structure has remained open.
