President Ilham Aliyev participated in the opening of the Tartar Electromechanical Plant after its reconstruction on January 13.
Modern.az reports that the head of state familiarized himself with the conditions created at the enterprise and the new production lines.
According to the Minister of Defense Industry Vugar Mustafayev, the plant, founded in 1978 by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, has now been adapted to the most modern technological standards by local specialists of the "Azersilah" Defense Industry Holding CJSC.
High-precision equipment has been installed at the enterprise, and a special laboratory for controlling international quality standards, as well as ballistic test ranges, have been established.
Azerbaijan's defense industry is developing rapidly. According to the results of last year, military products worth 1.4 billion manats were produced in our country. Currently, locally produced military products are exported to nearly 20 countries worldwide.
The Tartar Electromechanical Plant, as an important link in this chain, will serve both to enrich the arsenal of the Armed Forces and to increase export potential.
Military expert Ramil Məmmədli stated in his comments to Modern.az that one of the steps taken by Azerbaijan towards the development of its defense industry sector is the construction of new defense industry enterprises:
“As demand increases, the necessity arises to expand production areas, but it is not possible to increase volume in existing plants and factories. From this perspective, the construction of new enterprises and the development of new products is a correct and strategic step. The establishment of military-purpose plants, factories, and design bureaus in Tartar and other regions not only strengthens Azerbaijan's position in the defense industry sector but also stimulates economic and social development in the regions.
The opening of such enterprises in the regions is extremely important for the formation of specialists. During the Soviet era, comprehensive enterprises also operated in the regions, but they were suspended for certain reasons. The newly opened enterprises will carry out the production of weapons and equipment necessary for Azerbaijan, as well as their spare parts. This, in general, will contribute to the development of the defense industry complex. The President's attention to these issues and his direct participation will have a significant impact on strengthening the sector”.
The expert noted that after our victory in the Second Karabakh War, Azerbaijan expanded the geography of exchange in military industrial products. In recent times, imports have been carried out with developed Asian countries (China, Pakistan):
“Our army currently possesses “Kobra2” armor, the “Viking” anti-aircraft missile system, the “HQ-9” air defense system, and in the field of Air Force, the “JF – 17C” combat aircraft (China and Pakistan), and the “Skystriker” unmanned aerial vehicle", the expert said.
