The MIA has appealed to citizens regarding the increase in fraud cases against elderly and lonely citizens.
According to information provided to Modern.az by the Press Service of the MIA, an increase in fraud cases against elderly and lonely citizens has been observed in recent days.
Unknown individuals, presenting themselves as children, grandchildren, or close relatives, demand money from elderly people with false pretexts such as allegedly causing an accident or needing a serious surgical operation.
It has been stated that suspicious individuals mainly call from foreign numbers, transmit false information to citizens, and insistently demand the urgent transfer of funds in various amounts. In some cases, fraudsters specifically target elderly and lonely individuals, sending couriers to their addresses to attempt to seize funds in cash or online.
To prevent such incidents, citizens are advised to definitely verify the information provided during incoming calls, not send money by trusting unknown individuals or suspicious calls, and immediately contact the 102 Call Center if they encounter suspicious situations.
"The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on citizens to be careful and act particularly sensitively against such fraud attempts," it was noted in the information.
