According to the information, the decision will come into force on January 21, and the duration of the restrictions has not yet been announced. The decision covers a wide geographical area, from Russia to Iran, and from Brazil to Somalia. Azerbaijan has also been included in the list.
US Department of State spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated that immigration from the aforementioned countries will be suspended during the period of the Department of State's review of immigration control procedures. According to him, the goal is to prevent the entry of foreign nationals who would later utilize social security and public benefits.
The announced list includes a total of 75 countries, including Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia, Brazil, Cuba, Egypt, Georgia, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.
US officials have not yet provided further clarification on how the decision will affect humanitarian, student, and work visas, or whether there will be any exceptions.
