The Gabala Radar Station (RLS), located in the Gabala district of Azerbaijan, operated from 1985 to 2012. This "Daryal" type station was one of the main elements of the early warning system against missile attacks during the Soviet Union era and allowed for monitoring distances within a 6,000 km radius.

After gaining independence, it was leased to Russia from 2002 to 2012. The territory of the Gabala Radar Station (RLS), whose operations were suspended in December 2012 and which was handed over from Russia in mid-2013, is currently not in use.

According to information provided by the Gabala District Executive Authority to Modern.az, the Gabala RLS is currently on the balance sheet of the State Service for Property Issues under the Ministry of Economy:

“The station is under permanent protection in its entirety. There is no residential area within 5 km of the facility. Currently, the station's territory is solely a protected zone. There are no other activities".

The Executive Authority noted that military personnel who served at the aforementioned location in the 1980s-1990s lived in the nearest military town, and currently, there is residential life and residents in that military town”.

The Ministry of Economy confirmed the fact to our website, stating that, like all other unused buildings, "the Gabala RLS is on the balance sheet of the State Service for Property Issues."
