“This year, 40 million manats are planned to be allocated to compulsory medical insurance for outpatient drug provision.”

Modern.az reports that Zaur Aliyev, Chairman of the Board of the State Agency for Compulsory Medical Insurance, stated this at a press conference dedicated to the results and targets of 2025.

According to him, in 2026, the scope of the Service Package of compulsory medical insurance will be expanded. The change will cover several key medical areas:

“The first of these is the field of traumatology. When medically indicated, revision prosthetics, i.e., the replacement of the initial prosthesis with a new one, is planned to be covered by compulsory medical insurance.

In addition, it is planned to increase the range of diagnostic and surgical interventions related to the central and peripheral nervous system in neurosurgery, modern and effective services aimed at restoring and preserving vision in ophthalmology, and minimally invasive and high-tech medical services in invasive cardiology and cardiac surgery in the field of cardiology.”

The Chairman also announced innovations regarding the coverage of outpatient drugs prescribed on a prescription basis in 2026. He stated that cardiovascular diseases are the primary cause of mortality risk in Azerbaijan:

“For this reason, in the initial stage, it is planned to cover antihypertensive drugs used in the treatment of hypertension, which is one of the main factors contributing to the development of cardiovascular diseases. In the initial stage, a total of 76 medicinal products are planned to be provided. These drugs cover 28 active substances and will be presented in various dosages and combinations.”
