The Ministry of Digital Development and Transport and “Google” company announce that the “Gemini” artificial intelligence model has been officially launched in Azerbaijani. Thus, Azerbaijani has been selected as one of the 23 new languages added within the framework of strategic expansion. This allows Azerbaijani users to benefit from “Gemini”'s capabilities in their native language, alongside major global languages.

This process is expected to create conditions for both the Azerbaijani economy and the better analysis of the accessibility of resources in the native language and the grammatical and semantic structure of the language in the digital world.

Tahir Mirkişili, a member of the Milli Majlis Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, and Entrepreneurship, and Elnara Akimova, a member of the Culture Committee, informed Modern.az about the essence of the matter.

Deputy Tahir Mirkişili stated that “Google”'s official artificial intelligence program, Gemini, starting to support the Azerbaijani language might seem like technical news at first glance, but in reality, it opens up very real opportunities in our country, especially for local businesses and SMEs. Because artificial intelligence, once the language barrier is removed, ceases to be merely a tool for specialists and becomes a part of daily work.

“Firstly, this significantly facilitates communication with customers. A large portion of small and medium-sized businesses cannot respond to sales and support inquiries in a timely manner, and operator costs create an additional burden. Thanks to AI tools operating in Azerbaijani, companies can respond faster to questions coming via “WhatsApp”, social networks, and websites, automate frequently asked questions, and reduce the workload on employees. This both increases service quality and optimizes costs”.

T. Mirkişili also stated that this would have a positive impact on sales and marketing sectors.
“Many SMEs do not have a separate large marketing team. AI, however, provides real assistance in preparing advertising texts, social media posts, campaign ideas, product descriptions, and presentations in Azerbaijani. This means that businesses can achieve more with fewer resources, campaigns are prepared faster, and sales processes are accelerated”.

According to him, the use of artificial intelligence in programs and applications entering the local market saves time and money from an economic perspective. Companies can set up many processes more efficiently with artificial intelligence. As a result, products enter the market faster, user satisfaction increases, and the company's development speed accelerates.

“These opportunities are not limited to the domestic market alone. Businesses can prepare content in Azerbaijani and adapt it more easily to other languages, thereby expanding their access to foreign markets. This creates a very practical advantage, especially in IT services, e-commerce, tourism, and the service sector.

Of course, there are two important conditions here: firstly, companies must pay attention to the confidentiality of customer data. Secondly, artificial intelligence can also make mistakes, so the final check in sensitive texts such as legal and financial documents must be carried out by a human. In other words, AI is not the final decision-maker, but a powerful assistant when used correctly”.

“Overall, “Gemini”'s support for the Azerbaijani language is a good opportunity for the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence in our country. This enables SMEs to work faster, reduce costs, improve sales and service quality, bring digital products to market more quickly, and be more competitive in the long run. Our goal is precisely this: to create real economic benefits from artificial intelligence and to make every entrepreneur feel this in their daily work” - the MP concluded.

Literary critic, MP Elnara Akimova noted that in the 21st century, the extent to which a language is represented in artificial intelligence systems determines its entry into the global information circulation. The Azerbaijani state's declaration of digital architecture development as a priority, and simultaneously the support for the Azerbaijani language on global technological platforms, complement each other as parallel processes. This is an important stage both in terms of preserving national identity and increasing competitiveness in the digital economy.

“As you know, the meeting dedicated to “Azerbaijan's New Digital Architecture”, held on February 11 under the chairmanship of President Ilham Aliyev, indicated the beginning of a new stage in the country's development strategy. The head of state explicitly declared that digitalization, the application of artificial intelligence technologies, and data-driven management are no longer alternatives, but necessities. In an era where economic and technological competition is deepening globally, Azerbaijan also demonstrates its intention to systematically implement this transformation”.

The MP emphasized that at such a stage, “Google”'s official artificial intelligence platform, “Gemini”, starting to support the Azerbaijani language is not considered a coincidence; it is a manifestation of global technological processes on a national level.

“The recognition and processing of a language by artificial intelligence systems also hold strategic importance in terms of the language's survival, development, and adaptation to future generations in the digital environment. Studies conducted worldwide show that the more large language models process and use a certain language, the more systematically its grammatical structure, semantic relations, and terminological base are formed and standardized”.

She noted that for many years, the Azerbaijani language has predominantly been dominant in humanitarian and domestic spheres. However, active use on artificial intelligence platforms can accelerate the formation of scientific, technical, and digital terminology.

“Artificial intelligence models analyze syntactic structures, word combinations, and contextual semantic relationships based on thousands of text samples. This allows for a deeper and more logical adaptation of new concepts into the Azerbaijani language, beyond mere mechanical translation. The role of such platforms is increasing, especially for the correct and uniform application of terminology in the fields of information technology, cybersecurity, biotechnology, and the digital economy”.

According to Elnara Akimova, the impact of artificial intelligence on creative fields also deserves special attention. In journalism, literature, design, cinema, and advertising, AI already increases productivity in stages such as idea generation, initial text preparation, and the creation of visual concepts:

“This does not replace human creativity but accelerates and expands it. The emergence of such opportunities in the Azerbaijani language can enable local content producers to operate more flexibly in a global competitive environment. At the same time, the intensive use of the language in the digital environment enriches its lexical and stylistic capabilities”.

“Gemini”'s support for the Azerbaijani language is a door opening to the digital future of the language. The new digital development course defined by the President, in turn, indicates that a systematic and sustainable strategy lies behind this door. Azerbaijan is no longer an observer of digital transformation but acts as a country that transforms it into one of the main pillars of its development model” - E. Akimova concluded.
