During archaeological excavations conducted by the Azerbaijan-Japan joint scientific expedition from the ancient Taghlar cave in Khojavand district, led by Azad Zeynalov, a leading researcher at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, Doctor of Philosophy in History, and Associate Professor, a new paleoanthropological remnant of a Neanderthal human, dating back 80 thousand years, was found in Khojavand.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by Isa Habibbayli, President of the National Academy of Sciences, in his speech at the General Meeting of ANAS.

According to him, the archaeological fact is currently undergoing hydrocarbon analysis in Japan:

"If this fact, which researchers strongly believe in its reality, is confirmed, it will be considered the second discovery of global importance after the oldest human jaw discovered by Professor Mammadali Huseynov in Azikh cave in 1968" - he stated.
