On February 26, at 17:00 Baku time, the memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide was honored with a minute of silence throughout the territory of Azerbaijan.

Modern.az reports that at that moment, the movement of vehicles and pedestrians in the streets ceased.

In connection with the anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, the State Flag of Azerbaijan was lowered in cities and regions, villages and settlements of the country, and in diplomatic missions abroad.

Thousands of residents of the Azerbaijani capital visited the monument erected in memory of the victims of the tragedy in the Khatai district on February 26, respectfully commemorated the martyrs, laid wreaths, and placed carnations in front of it. Commemoration ceremonies, actions, marches, and cultural events for the victims of the Khojaly genocide were held in cities and regions of the Republic, in central and local executive authorities, departments and organizations, mosques, churches, synagogues, and foreign countries.

It should be noted that on the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian armed forces, with the help of the 366th motorized rifle regiment of the former USSR, attacked the city of Khojaly and brutally massacred the civilian population. 613 residents of the city, including 63 children and 106 women, were murdered with particular cruelty, and 1275 people were taken captive and hostage, subjected to torture. The fate of 150 of them is still unknown. 5379 residents of Khojaly were forcibly expelled from the city, 8 families were completely annihilated, 25 children lost both parents, and 130 children lost one of their parents.
