In recent years, a decrease in the population growth rate has been observed in Azerbaijan. While over 160 thousand children were born in Azerbaijan in 2015, this indicator was below 100 thousand in 2025.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Ali Ahmadov, First Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis, during the discussion of the Cabinet of Ministers' report.
Ali Ahmadov noted that while 1.5 - 1.6 million children were studying in Azerbaijani schools in 2015, the number of students in schools will be approximately 1 million in a few years.
The Vice-Speaker emphasized that this creates risks of redundancy for nearly 50 thousand teachers.
“In a few decades, there will likely be significant changes in the ratio between the retired population and the working-age population, which could seriously impact both our economy and our social policy. I believe that in 2026 and subsequent years, our government's attention to demographic issues will be increased under the leadership of Mr. Ali.”
