It is reported that a meeting at the level of speakers will be held between Armenian and Azerbaijani parliamentary representatives in the coming days. Armenian media has disseminated information regarding this.
No precise information has been provided regarding who will participate in the planned meeting or in which country it will be held. If the bilateral meeting is held in Armenia, who will go there from Azerbaijan?
Modern.az addressed this question to the deputies of the Milli Majlis.
Aydin Mirzazade: "A new page is now opening in Azerbaijan-Armenia relations. This page opened after Azerbaijan liberated its occupied territories and proposed establishing neighborly relations with Armenia based on international legal norms.
During this period, significant work has been done, a peace agreement has been initialed, and representatives of civil society are already meeting. As of yesterday, Azerbaijan has allowed a freight train to travel from its territory to Armenia. The establishment of other bilateral relations is also expected in the future. Among these, the establishment of inter-parliamentary relations and mutual visits by intellectuals and deputies are not excluded. If I receive an invitation for such visits, I will also participate. During my participation, I would articulate our state's position there and observe whether Armenian representatives are genuinely interested in good relations with Azerbaijan.
Malahat Ibrahimqizi: "We are now seeing meetings being held without a third party, and we evaluate this positively. The initialing of the peace agreement between the two countries on August 8 signals the normalization of relations in the future. In the stages following the initialing of the peace agreement, the development of public diplomacy is important. Holding meetings in various formats can, of course, contribute to the faster realization of peace. Creating an atmosphere of trust between the Armenian and Azerbaijani peoples is very important. If the peoples do not trust each other, peace will remain merely on paper. There are also those among the Armenian people who hold biased views against Azerbaijan, which could be overcome through mutual visits. As both a citizen of Azerbaijan and the chairwoman of the Women's Council of the Western Azerbaijan Community, I would gladly participate in the upcoming meetings".
Hikmat Babaoglu: "Armenia is my homeland. It is where I was born, grew up, received my education, my home and hearth. The naming of the state as Armenia does not change the fact that this geography belongs to us. Every inch of Armenia's Amasia district holds my memories. I want to physically touch those memories again. I want to see again the great material and cultural heritage representatives inherited from our ancestors. Therefore, I would gladly go to Armenia. However, regarding relations with representatives of another people settled in the historical geography belonging to us, as the President of Azerbaijan also noted, we can establish all kinds of economic and trade relations, but we must never forget the crimes committed by Armenians against the Azerbaijani people".
