In Azerbaijan, a driving license will be required to operate a moped. Amendments to the law "On Road Traffic" are envisaged in connection with this issue.
Modern.az reports that this was reflected in the draft law on amendments to the Law "On Road Traffic", which was discussed at today's meeting of the Milli Majlis.
It was stated at the meeting that the main purpose of the draft law is to improve regulations on the operation of moped vehicles, enhance drivers' knowledge and skills, and generally increase road traffic safety. Thus, one of the important changes proposed in the document is the requirement to obtain a driving license to operate a moped. This change will ensure that drivers possess certain knowledge and skills, and consequently, will increase road traffic safety.
According to other proposals, the definition of a moped vehicle is to be more precisely determined, and mopeds are to be registered with the state and taken into account. The draft law also envisages the abolition of the previously existing requirement for mopeds to travel only in the rightmost lane of the road. Furthermore, the aforementioned draft law prohibits carrying loads that extend more than 0.5 meters beyond the length or width dimensions of a motorcycle or moped, or that obstruct the operation of the motorcycle or moped.
Also, according to the amendment, mopeds will be registered with the state and taken into account.
The project has been adopted in the third reading. It should be noted that the law will come into force 3 months later.
