Yesterday, a broad-based meeting was held in Baku, at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Azerbaijan, between members of the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan interparliamentary working group and the ambassador and staff of the diplomatic mission.
According to Modern.az, the event was attended by Eldar Ibrahimov, head of the interparliamentary working group, and members Ahliman Amiraslanov, Javanşir Feyziyev, Eldar Guliyev, Agalar Valiyev, Polad Bulbuloglu, Musa Guliyev, Javanşir Pashazade, Sattar Mehbaliyev, and Gunay Afandiyeva.
In his speech, Eldar Ibrahimov, head of the working group, emphasized that relations between the two countries are currently at the highest level. He stated that ties between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have risen to the level of strategic partnership, and these relations are based on mutual trust, common historical roots, and political will.
The chairman stated that the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan interparliamentary working group is the second largest friendship group in the Milli Majlis after Turkey in terms of numbers, and this fact in itself indicates the priority nature of the relations. He noted the active participation of deputies, the comprehensiveness of discussions, and the open raising of issues of mutual interest as indicators of the development of relations at all levels.
Eldar Ibrahimov particularly highlighted the sincere friendly relations formed between the presidents of both countries, Ilham Aliyev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev. According to him, this closeness at the level of heads of state provides a significant impetus for the rapid expansion of cooperation in all areas.
During the meeting, the Karabakh issue, a sensitive and principled topic for Azerbaijan, was also addressed.
E. Ibrahimov noted that Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has repeatedly visited the liberated territories, demonstrating open support for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and the restoration process.
Eldar Ibrahimov assessed the construction of a full secondary school with 960 student places by Uzbekistan in Fuzuli city, and additionally, the implementation of a sewing factory project in the light industry sector in Khankendi, as an indicator of Uzbekistan's real contribution to the restoration of Karabakh.
The head of the working group stated that the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan brotherhood is not limited to modern political realities. It is based on common history, traditions, and unity of language and religion. He emphasized that the spiritual closeness existing between the peoples forms a strong foundation for interstate relations.
Special attention was also paid to the participation of Eldar Guliyev, a deputy of the Milli Majlis and chairman of the Council of Elders, at the meeting. Eldar Ibrahimov emphasized that close and sincere relations also exist between the elders of the two countries, which indicates that the relations have deep societal foundations.
Eldar Ibrahimov recalled that previous meetings held at the embassy at the presidential level were also clear examples of brotherhood. Furthermore, the visit of Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, to the embassy is also among the factors demonstrating the strength of relations on a religious and spiritual level. Now, the meeting of the interparliamentary working group at the embassy is a continuation of these consistent contacts and plays an important role in the development of relations.
Eldar Ibrahimov also touched upon the activities of the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Friendship Society. He stated that he has been leading this society for many years with the blessing of national leader Heydar Aliyev.
The society has strengthened the public foundations of relations by organizing cultural days, literary and artistic evenings, mutual visits, student exchange initiatives, and joint conferences between the two countries. The establishment of humanitarian bridges and the promotion of mutual contacts between intellectuals and businesspeople are also among the society's areas of activity.
During the meeting, Bahrom Ashrafkhanov, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan, delivered a speech, expressing his gratitude to the delegation and his satisfaction with the development of relations.
Eldar Ibrahimov wrote his good wishes in the Embassy's Guest Book.
It should be noted that the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Azerbaijan is one of the largest diplomatic missions among diplomatic corps and is located in one of Baku's most prominent areas, which officially indicates the importance the countries attach to each other.
Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations are also a successful example of integration in the Turkic world.
