“The Abkhazia region is, unfortunately, illegally occupied. People living there, including children, are subjected to discrimination, and their educational opportunities are restricted. Occupying forces create tension, commit acts of violence, and in some cases, unacceptable incidents such as firing at unarmed civilians occur. This is inhumane behavior and cannot be accepted”.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Nikoloz Shamkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, at the tenth trilateral meeting of the foreign relations committees of the Parliaments of Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia.
"I thank Azerbaijan and Turkey for their principled support for Georgia's territorial integrity, including on the Abkhazia issue. Support for the adoption of UN resolutions is also important for us. I believe that the sincere relations between the three countries will further develop, and bilateral and trilateral cooperation will rise to a new level.
At the same time, I want to emphasize that Georgia still suffers from the consequences of Russian aggression. This directly affects our security, and tension is observed on our borders. We support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, condemn the humanitarian tragedies occurring there, and express our solidarity with the Ukrainian people".
He noted that the same picture is observed around the region:
“Russia's armed conflict against Ukraine, as well as risks related to Iran and Syria, and other crises. Georgia also remains committed to diplomacy in the face of these pressures, advocating for the peaceful resolution of problems. Our main priority in relations with the Russian Federation is ensuring our territorial integrity. Peace is a decisive factor for both security and economic development”.
