"Unfortunately, film production in Azerbaijan has fallen to the Ministry of Culture".

Modern.az reports that MP Agil Abbas said this at today's plenary session of the Milli Majlis.

He noted that cinema is an important factor showcasing the country's national traditions:

“Turkey has been able to capture the world more with its films than with the Ottoman Empire. There are so many organizations in the country, but none of them sponsor film production. In Russia, most films are produced by ministries. Why should films in our country be made only with the money of the Ministry of Culture? How is it that organizations invest in football, but not in film?”.

“We also have historical figures. Why has no film been made about Shah Ismail to date? I don't want to talk about anyone, but 17 million was found in Ramiz Mehdiyev's house. 17 million means 10 high-quality feature films. But they keep this money at home. I also want our films to reach the world,” – he added.

However, the Speaker did not consider the comparison between Azerbaijan and Russia appropriate:

“Azerbaijan has its own laws,” – he said.
