"As is known, on February 18, a biased initiative against our country was launched under the title “Investigation of the Destruction of Cultural Heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh” by a group comprising 7 members from both chambers of the Parliament of Great Britain – the House of Lords and the House of Commons."
Modern.az reports that these words were stated by Azay Guliyev, a Member of the Milli Majlis.
According to the MP, the name, essence, and organizers of the so-called investigation indicate the scale of a treacherous plan prepared against Azerbaijan:
"Thus, the use of the expression “Nagorno-Karabakh,” which does not exist, already evokes disgust in everyone, and has been completely removed from the lexicon of all international organizations in the last three years, is not merely a step directed against our country's territorial integrity and norms of international law.
This is, at the same time, an attempt to strike at the environment of peace and trust that has been formed with great difficulty in the South Caucasus after 30 years of bloody conflict, to sabotage this process, and to invent fabricated narratives for a new confrontation.
The main initiator of the “investigation” is the “All-Party Parliamentary Group on Armenia,” registered in the Parliament of the United Kingdom on January 12, 2026.
Azay Guliyev stated that the secretariat of the group is carried out by the Armenian National Committee of the United Kingdom:
"To increase international attention to the issue, they have involved the Parliament's All-Party Parliamentary Group on International Law, Justice and Accountability and the International Bar Association's Human Rights Institute, led by Baroness Kennedy from the House of Lords.
This means they are preparing a new wave of campaigns against our country by using international organizations.
They don't even hide it.
In the information they disseminated, it is explicitly stated that their goals are to assess the scale and nature of the destruction of Armenian cultural heritage in “Nagorno-Karabakh” after 2023, to determine opportunities for justice, accountability, and compensation within the framework of international and national law, and to prepare reports and recommendations for the United Kingdom government and international organizations."
The MP emphasized that the commencement of activities by such a provocative and simultaneously dangerous group in the Parliament of Great Britain, which we consider a friend to Azerbaijan, causes deep regret:
"Our British friends and colleagues, including the organizers of this provocation, are well aware that in Azerbaijan, all cultural and religious monuments are treated with respect, regardless of religion or ethnic origin.
The preservation of the Armenian church in Baku and the repair of the Ghazanchi church in Shusha are numerous examples of this.
I believe that the British government and Parliament leadership should under no circumstances remain silent on such dangerous initiatives, should strongly condemn this provocation aimed at peace and security in the South Caucasus, and should not allow the implementation of this insidious plan that could harm Azerbaijan–Great Britain relations.
Otherwise, this provocation could harm bilateral relations and regional peace and security."
