Parliament

In the Milli Majlis, a total of more than 100 working groups operate on inter-parliamentary relations with various countries. These groups cover the regions of Europe, Asia, Africa, America, and Oceania, demonstrating that Azerbaijan possesses a broad network of international relations at the legislative level. Inter-parliamentary working groups, composed of deputies, aim to establish political dialogue with specific countries, organize mutual visits, exchange legislative experience, and deepen cooperation.

This mechanism is considered one of the main tools of parliamentary diplomacy and supports the state's official foreign policy course at the legislative level. At the same time, it plays an important role in defending Azerbaijan's national interests in foreign parliaments, strengthening its international image, and solidifying strategic partnership relations. The number and composition of working groups clearly demonstrate the country's foreign policy priorities and which directions are given special importance.

The Modern.az website has attempted to identify the working groups with the most and fewest members.

The research revealed that the working group with the largest composition is the Azerbaijan-Turkey inter-parliamentary relations working group, with 53 members. This is not surprising given the strategic alliance and the "one nation, two states" principle between the two countries.

In second place is the Azerbaijan-Russia working group (42 members), and in third place is the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan working group (32 members).

Other large-composition groups include the following:

Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan - 28 members

Azerbaijan-Serbia - 26 members

Azerbaijan-China - 24 members

Azerbaijan-Belarus - 23 members

Azerbaijan-UAE - 22 members

Azerbaijan-Italy - 22 members

This statistic indicates that Azerbaijan places particular importance on parliamentary diplomacy, especially with Turkic states, regional countries, and major political-economic actors.

Working groups with the fewest members

The working group with the smallest composition is the Azerbaijan-Afghanistan inter-parliamentary working group, with 2 members.

Other inter-parliamentary working groups with a small composition are as follows:

Azerbaijan-Djibouti - 3 members

Azerbaijan-Ecuador - 3 members

Azerbaijan-Libya - 3 members

Azerbaijan-Nepal - 3 members
