. "Azerbaijan Railways" CJSC is implementing a number of important projects aimed at reconstructing the railway infrastructure in the liberated territories. The largest of these is the construction of the Horadiz-Aghband railway line. Currently, construction work on this line is rapidly continuing.
This information was provided by "Azerbaijan Railways" CJSC in response to an inquiry from Modern.az.
It was stated that the construction of 8 new stations - Yukhari Marjanli, Shukurbayli, Soltanli, Gumlag, Hakari, Minjivan, Bartaz, and Aghband stations - is planned along the Horadiz-Aghband railway line, which has a total length of 110.4 km (140.6 km including side tracks).
85% of the Horadiz-Aghband design work and 68% of the construction and installation work have been completed. Currently, earthworks and the construction of engineering structures are continuing on the 75-106 km section of the line. The construction and installation process is being carried out in three phases. The construction of 1 tunnel and 1 gallery is nearing completion, while the construction of 1 bridge and 3 tunnels continues.
Along the Horadiz-Aghband line, nearly 600 artificial engineering structures, namely bridges, crossings, and tunnels, are being constructed. One of them, with a length of 771 meters and 20 spans, is the longest railway bridge built in our country to date. In total, 40 bridges are being constructed.
Within the framework of the project, 3 tunnels are being built for the third phase of the railway, and 4 tunnels in total. One of them, a tunnel with a length of 677 meters, is the first railway tunnel built using the closed method during Azerbaijan's independence period. The other tunnel, with a length of 1071 meters, is the longest railway tunnel in our country. Modern technologies and international standards are being applied in the construction of both tunnels.
According to information from ADY, after the completion of the works, the annual throughput capacity of the Horadiz-Aghband line will be 15 million tons.
For the first phase of the project (0-30 km), 89% of the construction and installation works have been completed in the section covering Horadiz, Yukhari Marjanli, and Shukurbayli stations, and 13 bridges and 62 crossings of various purposes have been constructed.
In the second phase (30-85 km), 80% of the work has been completed in the section covering Soltanli, Gumlag, Hakari, and Minjivan stations. In this phase, 22 bridges, 5 overpasses and flyovers, 5 underpasses have been built, and the construction of 1 tunnel and 1 gallery is nearing completion.
For the third phase of the Horadiz-Aghband railway line, 44% of the work has been completed on the 85-110 km section, including the Minjivan, Bartaz, and Aghband railway stations; 4 bridges have been built, and the construction of 1 bridge and 3 tunnels continues.
In this direction, the reconstruction of the Osmanli-Imishli line is also planned for the more efficient execution of cargo operations.
The construction of the Barda-Aghdam railway line has been completed, and the line has been put into operation. On August 30 of this year, passenger transportation on the Baku-Aghdam-Baku route was restored for the first time in 32 years. Passengers can now travel from Baku to Aghdam and in the opposite direction by modern trains. Along this line, Barda, Kocherli stations, and Tazakand stops are also at the service of passengers. On May 10, the Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex was inaugurated with the participation of Mr. President.
Furthermore, as a continuation of the Barda-Aghdam railway line, reconstruction work has begun on the Aghdam-Khankendi railway line, which is 28 km long. Within the framework of the project, the construction of 3 stations (Asgaran, Khojaly, Khankendi) and 121 engineering structures is planned.
The design of the railway line, as well as the design work for 4 bridges, 5 overpasses, 3 pedestrian crossings, and 4 culverts, has already been completed. Currently, design work for engineering structures is ongoing, and conceptual designs for Asgaran and Khojaly stations are being prepared. The design of the Khankendi Railway and Bus Terminal Complex, the foundation of which was laid by Mr. President in July, has commenced.
