Azerbaijani and Armenian specialists conducted preliminary technical reconnaissance and research work around the Zod (Soyudlu) gold deposit, located on the administrative border of the two countries.
Modern.az reports that this was announced by the office of Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.
It should be recalled that the aforementioned technical reconnaissance work is a preliminary technical step that precedes the delimitation process and serves to study the actual geographical conditions for preparing the border project. The Zod gold mine is located on the territory of Azerbaijan's Kalbajar and Armenia's Vardenis districts. Following the 44-day war in 2020, as a result of the November 10 statement between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the return of the Kalbajar district to Azerbaijan, based on Soviet-era administrative borders, a part of the deposit, including certain parts of the mine infrastructure, was returned to Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan's national mining company “AzerGold” CJSC has commenced large-scale geological research in the Azerbaijani part of the Zod gold deposit since August 2025.
