The images circulated in social networks and media regarding the call to prayer (azan) being recited in Kalbajar during the month of Ramadan have once again drawn society's attention to the issue of restoring religious and spiritual life in the liberated territories.
Especially, the sounds of the azan recited during imsak and iftar hours reached a wide audience in a short time, were met with interest, and led to discussions. On the one hand, these images were evaluated as a symbol of return and revival, while on the other hand, they actualized the question of whether a mosque currently exists in Kalbajar.
Modern.az sent an official inquiry to the Press Service of the Kalbajar City Restoration, Construction, and Management Service to clarify the questions arising around the topic.
In the response provided by the institution, it was stated that, according to the Master Plan for the development of Kalbajar until 2040, the construction and commissioning of a mosque in the city are planned for the future.
The official statement also emphasized that currently, there is no operational mosque in Kalbajar city. The recitation of the azan during the month of Ramadan is carried out based on the personal initiative of the residents. In other words, this initiative is not organized within the framework of any official religious object, but rather stems from the spiritual needs of the local population.
It appears that in the new social environment emerging in the region, religious values and traditions are also gradually being restored. Parallel to the process of rebuilding infrastructure in the liberated territories, a revival of spiritual life is also observed.
At the current stage, the recitation of the azan at the initiative of the residents can be regarded as a manifestation of solidarity and spiritual connection. The wide resonance generated by the images circulated on social networks also indicates society's sensitive approach to this issue. It is evident that in Kalbajar, alongside physical infrastructure, the process of forming a spiritual environment is also continuing in parallel. This can be evaluated as one of the important elements of the region's comprehensive revival in the post-conflict period.
