“Changes have occurred in the South Caucasus that will have an impact for centuries, perhaps even millennia.”
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, in his speech at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on March 11.
“The most memorable change is the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which was signed on August 8, 2025, in Washington, the capital of the USA. On that day, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and I signed a joint declaration establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the White House.
The declaration was also signed by US President Donald Trump as a witness. Prior to this, the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan signed an Agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the participation of the US President, the President of Azerbaijan, and myself.
In the Washington Declaration, a very important and highly sensitive issue such as the opening of regional air routes was also discussed. The third paragraph of the Declaration states: "We reaffirmed the importance of opening connections for domestic, bilateral, and international travel between the two countries, which promotes peace, stability, and prosperity in and around the region based on respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction of each state. These efforts will include unhindered connections between the main part of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through the territory of the Republic of Armenia, for the mutual benefit of the Republic of Armenia in terms of international and domestic communication."
The fourth paragraph of the Declaration states: "The Republic of Armenia will cooperate with the United States of America and mutually agreed third parties to establish a framework for the implementation of the 'Trump Path to International Peace and Prosperity' Communication Program on the territory of the Republic of Armenia. We reaffirm our commitment to faithfully take all necessary measures to achieve this goal as soon as possible.
"The 'Trump Path to International Peace and Prosperity' Program is currently in the preparatory stage. On January 13, the governments of the United States of America and Armenia adopted a framework for the implementation of this program, and in the near future, Armenia and the United States of America will sign a relevant agreement, after which the practical launch of the project will take place," Pashinyan emphasized.
According to the Prime Minister, the intentions of Yerevan and Baku to open communications are consistent and align with the interests of both sides. He emphasized that Armenia already uses transit routes passing through Azerbaijani territory, but Ankara and Baku have not yet accepted the reciprocal proposal.
